Kays 1980s

WATCH World of Kays 1980s poetry animation by Matt Norris, student at University of Worcester

Nineteen at the time
with Princess Di looks
Maternity dress copied
whilst the Microwave cooks

Having a giggle at 80s fashions

Engagement ring replica
Toasted sandwich craze
From your own kitchen
A technological phase

TV’s and videos
Stereo radio cassette
Phillips game console
Replaced the weary Dansette

Avocado bathroom suite
Became all scratched and hazy
White effect shelving
You went shoulder pad crazy

Lying on the floor with your big hair
Wriggling on drainpipe jeans
Zip them up in readiness
For neon nightclub scenes

Auto compact cameras
And Abba on satellite
CD’s put those girls on film
But mobile phones weren’t light!

Poem written by Brendan Hawthorne, 2011.
Based on reminiscences and responses from members of Worcestershire Association of Carers support groups.
